Purim at our house

As overheard in our house, on Friday, and transcribed not quite verbatim here.

Me: When are you going to make hamantaschen?

Rachel: I already made hamantaschen.

Me: But do you think you’ll make more?

Rachel: Why would I make more?

Me: Well, because I kind of wrote this article about you making hamantaschen for the blog.

Rachel: So?

Me: But then I sold the article to Interfaith Family.

Rachel: Uh huh ...

Me: And so now I need you to make more hamantaschen so that I can take a photo.

Rachel: This is the most twisted kind of Jewish guilt I have ever experienced.

Me: At least I can write off the apricots and dried prunes.

Rachel: They’re really just Fig Newtons, you know.

  2. I totally loved those photos. Rachel's hamantaschen are completely awesome-looking. I made some yesterday and they were not that shapely, let me tell you. Thank you for writing this piece for us.

  3. Ruth: Thanks! I'll pass along the compliment. They taste pretty divine, too.

Rob: “AAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I am NOT a fig newton!”

  4. I'm in a mixed marriage...he's Jewish, I'm Christian. I would love a good Hamantaschen recipe to surprise him and add to my list of Jewish recipes. Any chance you might be willing to post it up on your blog?

  5. Do I lose street cred if I admit that it's not some family recipe but rather something we found on Epicurious? I actually like these ones about 100 times better than the ones I grew up with -- my grandmother is rolling in her grave, but it's true. Here's the link: Fruit-Filled Hamantaschen from Philadelphia
